Brian began his photographic career in the seaside town of Blackpool in Northern England, where for a summer season he worked as a beach photographer until attending art school and photographic art college.
He then worked in the commercial photographic industry until moving to Toronto, Canada in 1969 where he joined the ranks of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's film department.
At the CBC he worked his way through the ranks of the film camera department from an assistant film cameraman, to camera operator, to documentary cinematographer where he traveled the world shooting documentary specials and program items. On returning to home base he turned to is first love, drama and became a Director of Photography on dramatic features and movies for television. In 1985 with a host of fine films to his credit, Brian became a freelance Director of Photography and film maker.
His creative work has been extensive in the US and Canadian markets of feature films, movies for television and TV series.
From early beginnings around the theatre, Brian's career in motion picture and television has always been drawn to drama and actors. His mother was a semi-professional actress and a music hall/Vaudeville performer. He has made a life -long study of drama and has written and directed many films. Now, when away from the working set, he spends his hours, writing: screen plays, short stories, prose, poems and songs.
Brian is an enthusiastic movie and theatre consumer, reader and traveler, where he finds enlightenment and wisdom while observing and interacting with people of different cultures and religions. These learnings in turn help him in his dramatic search for characterization and cinematic atmosphere while directing and/or photographing the many dramatic productions he takes on.
With a keen sense of dramatics and an imaginative visual style, Brian brings a practical and educated knowledge of drama, life and visual story telling to establish mood and enhance the cinematic design of the diverse productions he is assigned to. His many years of creative experience in feature films, television drama, documentaries, cinematography, still photography and film making have won him a substantial reputation and respect within the film and television communities, this in turn has kept him one of North America's busiest entertainment professionals.
Based in Vancouver Canada, Brian's assignments take him across the continent and around the world
